早いもので、２００７年も９月になってしまった。世界陸上の女子マラソンで、土佐礼子が三位に入り、北京五輪代表内定ですか。長距離走者としては、並みの能力としか思えないこの人の粘りと根性は凄まじいとしか言いようがないです。以前にも書きましたが、その粘りと根性に裏打ちされた安定度は、常に上位入賞を果たす結果によって証明済みでしたが、今回も高温の過酷な条件の中で図らずもその力を見せつけた格好ですね。故障にだけは気をつけてがんばってもらいたい。
さて、またもやしばらくサボってしまったEurekaseveNの英語解説。
前半のStonerの独白から、後半はDominicに交代。
“The incident that Anemone and I experienced in South Aires. Perhaps, it was a turning point with regard to what lies ahead of us.”＝「South Airesで私とAnemoneが遭遇したこと。これは、もしかするとこの先々に向けての転換点であったのかもしれない。」
lie＝「横たわる、もたれかかる、よりかかる」の復習。lieは不規則変化の自動詞、lie-lay-lain、lying。lie＝「嘘をつく」は、lie-lied-lie、lyingの規則変化、That calculator is surely lying.＝「その計算機は、確かいかれてる」
“The rendezvous between the two individuals, Anemone and Eureka, Type The End and Type Zero. And, the strange phenomenon we saw at ground zero that was excluded in the official report.”＝「この２者の邂逅、AnemoneとEureka、Type The EndとType Zero。そして、何よりも爆心地における報告書にも記載されていなかった怪現象。」
“But, the explosion at ground zero showed that other than two girls was present at that time. I believe that person's name is Renton. According to the information gathered by Department Four, he is said to join Gekkostate after the battle of Bell Forest. That fact is also obvious from the cover of Ray=Out issue 18. Could all events be coincident?”＝「しかし、あの爆心地で彼女たち以外に存在していた、確かRentonと呼ばれるあの少年、４課が入手した情報によると、Bell Forest会戦以後に月光Stateに加入したとされている。それは、Ray=Out １８号の表紙からも明らかだ。Bell Forest、そう、私が出雲艦隊と共にType Zeroを追い、そして、その発動を目撃した所。これら全ては、果たして偶然なのだろうか。」
発動をits awakeningで表現している。awakening＝「覚醒」と言う感じかな。

Reports say that three scientists were responsible for this discovery, Dr.Yauchi, Dr.Diamond, and Dr.AdrocThurston who would later become famous as the man who saved the world. The Project Ageha continued on after Dr. Adroc's death, but it was destroyed by something no one ever imagined.”＝「Type Zero、それは、我々が最初に発見したLFOである。報告書によれば、発見したのは三人の科学者、Dr.Yauchi、Dr.Diamond、そして、後に世界を救ったとして有名になるかのDr.Adroc Thurstonである。同行したのは、当時情報部主任であり、数人の部下を連れたDewey Novac少尉で、ある意味それが、我々人類が未知なる存在に接触した最初の出来事であったと言われている。Adroc博士の死後も推進されたアゲハ構想は思わぬことで中止されてしまう。」
In a way＝「ある意味それが」と言う感じですか。unknown existance＝「未知なる存在」
“The girl had been maintained by forces was the secret of all secrets. Eureka, it was still mystery why she was assined to be a member of the SOF First Mobile Squadron. It didn't make sense.”＝「我が塔州連邦軍によって極秘裏に管理されていた少女Eureka。彼女がなぜSOF第一機動部隊に配属されていたのかは、未だもって不明である。」
“The abduction of Eureka carried out by Holland, a SOF member, was done in a very intelligent manner, far from the images one has of the character in question. A brand new ship, SL1200 Mark 2, had been built in a top secret condition. And not even initiated at that time its rolled out. A fact that later became a huge problem, actually, the development, let alone construction of this new battleship, was not approved by the military higher officers, or even by the Sage Committee. In other word, it was a new battleship did not exist on record. The abduction had taken their utmost advantage of this. The operation was done by on-site paperwork alteration and infomation manipulation. They created false eminent invasion look and the ship was handed over to the manager of SOF. Off course, the fact of abduction would be covered up on site. And us, the military officers, who had no means of knowing of its existance, was completely caught off guard. ”＝「SOFのメンバーだったHollandによるEureka強奪は、その印象とは全くかけ離れたスマートな手段によって行われた。当時極秘裏に造船され、Roll Outもされていなかった新造艦SL１２００ Mk.２。その後に大きな問題となった事実、実はこの新造艦の建造どころか開発（計画）自体が、軍の上層部はおろか、賢人会の承認さえ受けていなかった。即ち、この新造艦の存在自体があらかじめ消去された存在だったのである。それを逆手に取って行われた強奪作戦。それは現場の書類改ざんや情報操作によって行われた。あくまでも架空の実戦配備をでっち上げ、架空の作戦を遂行するためと言う名目で、SOFの最高責任者だった男の手に渡った。当然現場では強奪の事実は隠蔽されてしまった。こうして、その存在を知ることがなかった軍部は、完全に隙を突かれてしまったのだ。」
abduction＝「誘拐、拉致」と言った語感です。昔見ていた“X-Files”と言うTV Seriesに良く出てきた単語。the person in questionで「（今話題になっている）当のご本人」と言うこと。Roll-out＝「航空機新型発表会」と辞書に出ていました。そんな意味で使っているようですが、日本語で使うのは感心しません。
let alone また出てきました。He was too exhausted to think, let alone study. 「勉強なんて言わずもがな、考えることさえできないほど疲れていたんだ。」と言う表現です。
on-site＝「現場」と言う意味で使ってます。on-site paperwork alteration and infomation manipulation＝「現場における書類の改ざんおよび情報操作」、the fact of abduction would be covered up on site＝「強奪の事実は、現場で隠蔽された」、cover upで隠蔽と使える。
caught off guardは、要するにoff guardの時にcatchされてしまったと言うわけですから、これで「隙を突かれる、油断に付け込まれる」となるわけです。
