久々にまた、Eurekasevenの英語版台詞の解説を試みてみました。やっていて結構面白いし、聞き取りの勉強にはなるんですが、時間がかかるのが難点です。
さて、１５話はRenton、Eureka、Matｔhieuの三人がRentonの叔父Yukatanの住む町Controradoを訪ねる話。“Sis, do you remember the city of Controrado? It's a city that has many sanatorium run by military. Our father, Adroc Thurston, a man who saved the world from the destruction met our mom and fell in love with her in this city.”＝「姉さん、Controradoと言う町を覚えていますか。軍関係の保養施設が数多く、世界を破滅から救ったとされるAdroc Thurston、僕らの父さんが母さんと出会い、そして恋に落ちたあの町です。」
sanatorium＝療養所、保養地（cf．sanitariumは同義）。destruction＝「破壊」ですが「破滅、滅亡」と結構重い意味があるんですね。“Drinking was his destruction.” Destructionistと言うと「無政府主義者」と言うことになるんです。
“The reason why we are here because he all of a sudden became conscious of his health after the close encounter with Coralian.”＝「全ての事の発端は、Coralianとの接触の後、この人が健康に目覚めたことにあって」。Matthieuの台詞、“Nature is so awesome. Since all of us were born from that, I decided I'm going to respect it.”＝「自然は凄い。その自然から俺たちは生まれた。だから自然を敬う。」 “It ignited major health consciousness fad within the Gekkostate. The fad quickly spreaded throughout the ship.”＝「これが月光State第５次健康ブームとやらに火をつけてしまい、燃え上がった炎は瞬く間に艦内に広がった。」 Health consciousness fad＝「健康ブーム」ですが、“boom”は文字通りぶーんと言うような轟きから転じてにわか景気を表す言葉で、健康ブームの使い方は和製英語なんだろう。fad＝「気まぐれ、一時的流行」、in fashion、out of fashion、trend、なんかは良く使いますが、fadは知らなかった。
Health consciousness fadは、とうとう世界三大健康食品の一つとされているPuncha Nuts（Durianみたいなものか？）に行き着き、Rentonがこれを食べたことがあると言うのをMatthieuが聞きつけた。“Renton, I want you to tell me all the details.”＝「その話、詳しく聞かせてもらおうか。」 “Just be back before 3 O'clock.”＝「３時までに帰って来い。」 “And so we got it, the special exception from Holland. We got permission to head out. And that's when the unexpected thing started to happen.”＝「と言うわけで、異例中の異例として、特別に許可が下りた。僕にとって予想外だったのはここからで。」
Puncha Nutsを叔父さんの農園から失敬しようとして見つかってしまった一行にYukatanが、“Freeze! Face down on the ground and spread your arms and legs.”＝「動くな、腹這いになり、手足を広げろ。」 Freezeは残念ながら本邦でももうお馴染みの台詞。これを言われたら、微動だにしない方が安全なんだろうな。
“You big fool. Please forgive him for all of the rude things he's done. He is still very young. If you are friends of Renton. I consider you my friends as well. I know I haven't greeted you properly, please do make yourself at home.”＝「この大馬鹿者が（殴られる音）。これまでの非礼の数々お許しください。Rentonにとっての友人は私にとっても同じ。ろくなおもてなしも出来ませんが、どうかゆっくりなさってください。」
consider＝regard as “We consider Shakespeare a great poet.”＝“We regard Shakespeare as a great poet.”
ところで、MatthieuはRentonが人類を滅亡の危機から救った英雄Adroc Thurstonの息子だと言うことを知らなかったみたいで、“You mentioned Adroc. Did you mean the Adroc Thurston?”＝「Adrocって、あのAdroc Thustonのことですか」 “Off course. Are there any other Adroc Thurstons？”＝「あのAdroc Thurstonですよ。」 “What! So, you're Adroc Thurston's son. Why didn't you say something?”＝「何！お前Adroc Thurstonの息子なの。」 “Drink up. Don't be shy.”＝「まあ、飲んで飲んで、まあまあ。」欧米で酒を注いだり注がれたりはあまり機会がないが、やるとしたらこんな感じか。 あのAdroc ThurstonはThe Adroc Thurstonと言えばよいのです。さて、３時を過ぎたと言うのに、Matthieuは勧められる酒を断り切れず、酒宴が始まってしまいました。
