軍が放棄した、南半球最大の空軍基地、Manaaki Baseに弾道飛行でやってきたGekkostate一行だが、この地は何かいわくありげで、Hollandは機嫌が悪い。“Maybe, she's lost her touch or something.”＝「あいつ（Talhoのこと）、腕にぶったんじゃねーか。」とHap。
新入りのRentonにしてみれば、ここも初めての土地ではあったが、Nirvashの傍に留まるというEurekaに、自身も従うことにした。“My voice, it isn't reaching.”＝Nirvashに思いが届かなくなったとなにやら様子のおかしいEureka、Nirvashを整備するRentonの手に自分の手を差し伸べる。その光景を見たHolland、“Gees, They don't have to flaunt it like that.”＝「まったく。みせつけてんじゃねーよ。」 Hurrey for zero gravity以来、舞上がっているRenton、傍らに坐るEurekaに、“I'm sorry. I don't think... I can't hold back any more.”＝「ごめん。俺、もう辛抱堪らないよ。」と接吻を試みる。そこにWozとJobsの邪魔が入り“Just spill it out already?”＝「ばらしちまえよ。」、と言われると余計に“I can't spill it out, after all.”＝「やっぱり、ばらせません。」
一方、TalhoとHollandは、廃墟となった基地の建物の前に佇む。かつてHollandは、この基地からTalhoを連れ出し、二人は軍を抜けたのだった。“Why won't you look at me.”＝「こっちみなさいよ。」Talho、“You're bugging me.”＝「うぜえから。」Holland。このBugは、昆虫のBug、名詞で「欠陥」になったり、動詞の「盗聴する」、「悩ませる」など、いろいろな意味がある。“I want to run away to the other side of planet or anywhere else. I want to forget. That day, that place, and every thing else, all of it. But, I can't, and all keep chasing after me.”＝「逃げてえよ。星の裏側だろうとどこだろうと。忘れてえよ。あの日、あの場所、なにもかも全部。だけど、見事に追いかけてくるんだよ。ほんと逃げてえよ。」、“I am begging you. Can't you just help me （to） forget about it？”＝「たのむよ。忘れさせてくれよ。」、さすがのHollandもTalhoにだけは、背負っている苦渋の思いを吐露することになる。なお、このtoは、口語では省略が普通。劇中もhelp me forgetと言っている。
“That's it. The wave never came.”＝「結局波は来なかった。」 “You landed us here on purpose, didn't you.”＝「お前、わざとここにおろしたんだろ。」とHolland。“It really didn't matter anyway. That wave, I mean. There's no way we'll ever forget about it. It really wouldn't be right to forget. And I have no intention of fogetting. That's why you have brought him on board Gekko, isn't it.”＝「どうでも良かったくせに、波なんて。忘れるられるわけないじゃない。忘れて良い訳も、忘れるつもりも無い。だから、あの子を迎え入れたんでしょ。」 “Brother, you really know how to hit a guy where it hurts.”＝「全く、痛いところを突いてくんなよ。」 “Your weak spots are just too easy to find.”＝「あんたのつぼは、分かり安すぎるのよ。」、やはり、Talhoには頭が上がらないHolland。
そして、世界のこと、Gekkostateのこと、Eurekaのこと、まだまだ分からないことが多過ぎるRentonの独白、“There're still lots of things I don't really understand. But, the fact that I'm standing here right now, the fact that I'm looking out at the world right now, I felt certain that was the truth. But, at the same time, I could't help thinking. Why am I here for anyway? Why was I born at the particular planet? And what exactly is it that I am living for?” ＝「まだ、わからないことだらけだけど。でも、今ここにいること、今こうして世界を見ていると言うことは、真実なんだという確かな感じがしたんだ。だけど同時に思ったんだ。俺はどうしてここにいるんだろう。何のためにこの星に生まれたんだろう。そして何のために生きているんだろう。」 “can not help ....ing”の構文でこのhelpは、stopの意。
